Child Protection Policy

Our commitment to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people.

Insight Dyslexia Services is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. This policy sets out how we fulfil that responsibility when providing dyslexia assessments and related services.

Our Commitment

The welfare of the child is paramount. We recognise that all children, regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion, or sexual identity, have an equal right to protection from harm. We are committed to creating and maintaining a safe environment for every child we work with.

Scope

This policy applies to all activities carried out by Insight Dyslexia Services, including assessments conducted in person, remotely, or at a client's home or school. It covers interactions with children and young people under the age of 18.

Safe Practice

When working with children, I follow safe working practices including:

  • Ensuring a parent or carer is present or nearby during any in-person assessment involving a child.
  • Never being alone in a closed room with a child without a parent or carer's knowledge and agreement.
  • Maintaining professional boundaries at all times.
  • Using only appropriate and professional communication with children and their families.

Recognising Abuse

Abuse can take many forms, including physical, emotional, sexual abuse, and neglect. If during the course of my work I have reason to believe that a child is at risk of harm or has been harmed, I have a legal and professional duty to act on that concern.

Reporting Concerns

If I have a safeguarding concern about a child, I will:

  • Take any immediate steps necessary to protect the child from harm.
  • Report my concerns to the relevant statutory authorities — such as the local authority children's services or the police — without delay.
  • Keep a written record of observations, concerns, and actions taken.
  • Not investigate allegations myself, but refer them to the appropriate agencies.

Sharing personal data with authorities in a safeguarding situation is permitted under GDPR where it is necessary to protect the vital interests of a child. This overrides normal data confidentiality obligations.

DBS Checks

Where required, I hold a current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check appropriate to my work with children and young people.

Training and Review

I am committed to keeping my safeguarding knowledge up to date through appropriate training. This policy is reviewed annually and updated as needed to reflect changes in legislation or best practice.
